Orin J. Ehrie, age 94, of Decorah, IA, died Sunday, April 22, 2012 at Wellington Place in Decorah.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, April 27, 2012 at Glenwood Lutheran Church in rural Decorah, with Rev. Stacey Nalean – Carlson officiating. Burial will be in Pontoppidan Cemetery in rural Decorah.
Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 P.M. Thursday, April 26 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah and on Friday one hour before the service at the church.
Orin Jasper Ehrie was born on September 7, 1917 on the family farm in Decorah, Iowa the son of Edgar and Sophie (Carlsborg) Ehrie. He attended the Glenwood No. 5 School in Glenwood Township. Orin lived on and farmed the family farm his entire life.
Orin was united in marriage to Helen Iola Geving on March 11, 1943 at Glenwood Lutheran Parsonage in rural Decorah. To this union four children were born: Herbert, Donna, James and Jolene.
Orin was a woodworker, making clocks, musical instruments, toys and furniture. He restored old engines and tractors and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of Glenwood Lutheran Church, serving on Church Council, the Farm Bureau Board of Directors and Pheasants Forever.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Linda Lee Ehrie; his sister Gerda Teslow; his brothers-in-law, Ingeman Teslow and Irvin Snitker; his sister-in-law, Arlene Snitker; and many aunts and uncles.
Orin is survived by his wife, Helen of Decorah; his children: Herbert (Alverta) Ehrie of Decorah, Donna (Clifford) Dee of Waukon, IA, James (Karen) Ehrie of Decorah and Jolene (Wayne) Roseler of Louisville, CO; his eleven grandchildren: Marie (Randy) Tweeten, Byron Ehrie, Bradley (Lea) Ehrie, Melanie (Travis) Gunderson, Lisa (Jeff) Troendle, Laurel (Mark) Weighner, Annie Dee, Kjersti Ehrie, Mari (Greg) Lewey, Travis (Lily) Chrystal, Trevor (Danielle) Chrystal; and 21 great-grandchildren.
